Welcome to the Scholars Program from your 2007-2008 Binghamton Scholars Council.
As Binghamton Scholars, you have been recognized academically as the “best of the best.” I hope you will take full advantage of the leadership opportunities, classes, and community that our program has to offer. Your four years in this program will surely provide many challenges; however, they will also earn you academic recognition, and enable you to construct a roadmap for a successful future.
For those interested in leadership opportunities, the Binghamton Scholars Council welcomes you to run for a council position. These annual elections are held each May. Keep in mind that you do not need to be an officer to help the further expansion and growth of the program. Additionally, as a Scholar you will take a Leadership class and be given the opportunity to design and develop your own community outreach project, serving our own campus or the greater Binghamton area.
The classes that Binghamton Scholars offers exclusively to you are engaging, exciting and thought-provoking. Your communication, analytic, interpersonal, and leadership skills will be strengthened in a friendly and nurturing environment. In addition, these classes will help you forge bonds with other Scholars.
We proudly promote our social functions which are sponsored by the Scholars Program Student Council. Past events have included bowling competitions, pizza parties, ice cream socials, trivia/game nights, and elegant dinners. By taking part in these great events you can further immerse yourself in the Scholars community and create everlasting friendships.
While several perks of the program probably appeal to you, I think you’ll find the Scholars Program’s greatest benefit is that involvement in the program will lead you to incredible career development opportunities. Employers recognize participation in the Scholars Program as evidence that you are the highest caliber student at a highly recognized university.
Be it through unique classroom discussions, fun social activities, or scholars luncheons, we encourage you to take full advantage of all the program has to offer. We always welcome new ideas. All of us on the council encourage your voice and input. Last but not least, congratulations on being recognized as a Binghamton University Scholar! The entire Scholars Council looks forward to meeting you and helping you to make the most of your Binghamton Scholars experience.
Sincerely,
Alexis Stecker and Jonathan Fulop
